Is Army of the Dead a sequel to Dawn of the Dead?

The premise of Army of the Dead was originally intended for a Dawn of the Dead sequel. No, really. Director Zack Snyder is not shy about this point, mentioning to the press, including us, that he's virtually had this concept in the back of his mind since time immemorial.

Meanwhile, Dawn of the Dead is Zack Snyder’s 2004 zombie movie about a group of survivors who camp out in a shopping mall during a zombie apocalypse. That film stars Sarah Polley, Ving Rhames, Jake Weber, and more, and is a remake of the 1978 film of the same name from filmmaker George A. Romero.

It’s not too surprising, in that case, that some viewers of Army of the Dead on Netflix are wondering: Hey, are these two films—that are both about zombies and that are both directed by the same guy and that both of the word “dead” in the title—maybe connected somehow?

Is Army of the Dead a sequel to Dawn of the Dead?

No. Army of the Dead is the first film in a new zombie franchise and was never intended to be a Dawn of the Dead sequel. In an interview with Screen Rant, Snyder explained that while he did develop Army of the Dead shortly after Dawn of the Dead, it was never a sequel.

“I developed it right after Dawn, but not as a sequel,” the director said. “I wanted to do this other evolution in it of the zombies, so I needed another trope. I needed another origin story in order to make this other thing work, so I was like, ‘Okay, it can live in its own universe.’ And now we’re building this universe like nuts, so we’ll see. It’s kind of fun.”

Snyder certainly did build out that universe! Now fans will eagerly await the prequel, animated series, and (possible) sequel.

The Devil All the Time is a film adaptation of the novel

While there is still no clarity regarding the opening of cinemas in Indonesia, Netflix released a new psychological thriller film entitled The Devil All the Time. Directed by Antonio Campos, The Devil All the Time is a film adaptation of the novel of the same name written by Donald Ray Pollock.

Among other Netflix original Hollywood films that have been released until mid-September, The Devil All the Time is quite special. The film is enlivened by rising actors, including Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Sebastian Stan, and other well-known actors. What's more, Jake Gyllenhaal actually plays as a producer.
